Biscuits – Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.

Biscuits and gravy at biscuits... and this was only the half order!

When we got off the ferry in Martha’s Vineyard, one of the first places we saw was Biscuits. And the huge line outside of Biscuits. We had planned on checking out The Net Result for lunch before heading to Nantucket, but since we ate there for dinner the night before, Biscuits was the obvious next choice. Plus, we haven’t had brunch in so long. Plus, we were maybe ready for a little break from seafood.

We got up early and ran the three miles from Vineyard Haven to Oak Bluffs. We got to Biscuits a little before ten expecting there to already be a long wait. Apparently, we beat the crowd because when we arrived, there was only one table in front of us. We weren’t quite ready to eat yet, so we walked around Oak Bluffs for a while, came back at around 10:30, and were seated half an hour later.

Of course, while we were waiting, we scoped out the menu and tried to get a peek at whatever food was being served inside. That’s when we saw someone eating the Big Dog breakfast sandwich. Two eggs, American cheese, and choice of bacon, ham, sausage, or turkey sausage served on grilled texas toast? Yes please… With sausage. I’ve never had a breakfast sandwich on texas toast, but I think that’s what made all the difference. And, they used white American cheese, rather than yellow American cheese. Maybe that’s what made all the difference. I don’t really know. All I can say is that this was the best breakfast sandwich I’ve had in a long time. And I love breakfast sandwiches. <3

Next, we ordered the Waffle & Fried Chicken. On the menu, it’s described as “our delicious waffle and Southern fried chicken. Need we say more? Yum!” Nope, they definitely had me at waffle and fried chicken. No explanation necessary. To be honest with you, the fried chicken was so good that I hardly even paid attention to the waffle. Yes, that good.

On the side we got an order of hash browns (which were really just three whole potatoes) and a side order of biscuits and gravy (did you think we would go to a restaurant called Biscuits and not order the biscuits? Please). Again, both some of the best hash browns and biscuits and gravy that I’ve had.

Maybe it’s the fact that I haven’t had brunch in a while (and I love brunch), but this place is really doing it right. I see why there’s a line out the door every single day.
