What I Ordered
- Build Your Own Bowl with Rice Noodles, Chicken, Adams St Terikyaki, Broccoli Medley, Zucchini + Squash, Bean Sprouts, Carrots, Premium Mushrooms, Scarlet Glow Iced Tea
In Short: I ordered a build-your-own stir fry bowl with chicken, rice noodles, and veggies. It came out quickly and was delicious :)
I like to cook a lot and bring my lunch to work to keep down costs & stay healthy, but sometimes I’m just in the mood to treat myself and go out. When that happens, I try to at least stay relatively healthy & low cost. One of my new quick lunch obsessions that fits the bill is Brightwok Kitchen. You walk in to the brightly lit restaurant and the wall says it all – “Eat Right, Live Bright.” It’s a casual establishment where you order at the counter and then they call your number and you pick up your food. Every time I’ve been during lunch the line is to the door/wraps around the store- but moves pretty quickly. Dinner tends to be more empty due to it’s Loop location.
I’ve regularly heard Brightwok described as an “Asian Chipotle”, which I`d say is pretty accurate. The concept is pretty similar at both- you pick your base (rice noodles/lettuce/rice), your protein (chicken, steak, tofu, or all veggies) and then a sauce and up to 4 veggies. They then cook it in a wok right there in front of you. Everything is gluten free and all the veggies are fresh.
My personal go-to bowl is a make-your-own stirfry with the Rice Noodles, Adams St. Teriyaki, Chicken, and then Bean Sprouts, Broccoli, Carrots, and then the Squash/Zucchini mix. The teriyaki sauce is one of the heavier ones, so if you prefer lighter I recommend the Thai Basil which is also very tasty! Beyond my personal veggie choices, they also offer edamame beans, peppers, onions, kale, and random seasonal vegetables. When dining in, I also get their Scarlet Glow iced team- it comes in a mason jar and is highly refreshing. Their standard bowls offer 2 upgrade options for an extra $1.50 – crimini mushrooms or a fried egg. I am not a big egg person, but I always do the mushrooms and it’s totally worth the $$. My coworker, however, always goes for the egg and swears by it, so it’s definitely worth a try at least once.
Brightwok is also available on GrubHub, DoorDash, and UberEats (although they only deliver the salads during lunch hour, not the hot bowls).
