What I Ordered
- Pizza Pot Pie- The Half Pounder
In Short: The sauce contains numerous spices and flavors that make your mouth wanting more. The hot cheesy exterior melts in your mouth every bite.
The overall experience at Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder is unlike any other. A hole-in-the-wall ma and pa place that does not take reservations or names. The same manager has been running the restaurant for years and he remembers the order of which individuals come into the restaurant by face. Not once have I seen him be wrong. The down side to this quaint restaurant? Come in at a prime time and you will definitely have at least a one hour wait. Oh and don’t forget cash because this place is so popular they can still keep their business booming as a cash-only joint.
What about the food? The pizza pot pie and mediterranean bread are to die for. There is nothing like starting your meal off with a piece of flatbread covered in Italian seasonings and parmesan cheese that is overflowing the plate. And be prepared to get your fingers dirty as this is a pull apart bread.
Follow up the mediterranean bread with more carbs, the pizza pot pie. The half pounder comes out in a steaming hot bowl with a bread top covering it. The waiter then scoops out the sauce and cheese and flips the bowl over to create a bread bowl of sauce and melted cheese. Options for the pizza pot pie include vegetarian or meat and mushrooms or no mushrooms.
This pizza experience is truly unlike any other.
