What I Ordered
  • Table 42 Red Ale, 6.4% ABV
  • Handcut Duck Fat French Fries
  • Smoked Tri Tip Sandwich with French Fries

In Short: The duck fat french fries were incredibly rich, flavorful and not greasy. The sandwich came on a soft baguette filled with sweet, tender, juicy, tri-tip. This place was definitely a win!

Back in February, I spent my 27th birthday enjoying what I love most: eating and traveling. I spent a weekend in the beautiful Goleta hills and along the breathtaking coast of Santa Barbara. While here, I definitely ate a massive amount. I will be highlighting two of my favorite places to eat: Hollister Brewing Company in Goleta, CA and Brophy Bros. in Santa Barbara, CA.

After a long hike and disappointing visit to the Monarch Butterfly Grove (I saw one butterfly), I was famished! I Googled the nearest place to grab a good brew and food. Within a few minutes I arrived at a shopping center where this establishment is located.

When I looked at the menu, the duck fat french fries immediately caught my eye. I just had to try them! ‘Duck fat fried french fries? YES!’ I said to myself. I was so excited once they reached my table.  They were so rich in flavorful fat! I can still taste them! They were very crispy and went well with buttermilk ranch.

My tri tip sandwich did not disappoint! The baguette was lightly toasted with a soft texture (not chewy). The meat was sweet, spicy and perfectly tender. Amazingly juicy! The side dipping sauce was an added beauty of sweet BBQ flavoring. The side of fries that came along with the sandwich are not fried in duck fat and there is a big difference in taste! However, I did enjoy the freshness of the fries. They were absolutely freshly, hand cut from potatoes!  (still prefer those duck fat fried fries).

After a long hike, one can really work up a thirst. They have a variety of beer to choose from; you can even take home a growler for $14! Red ales can be somewhat bitter and not too pleasing to the tongue. Hollister’s Table 42 Red Ale is wonderfully smooth and the subtle hits of caramel create a really delicious beer.

I had a wonderful overall experience here. The service was prompt and excellent. The patio area is heated and cozy. It’s definitely a must brewery to visit if you’re in the area and looking for a hearty meal and excellent craft beer.
