In Short: Next time you're craving your next big ice cream fix, please do yourself a favor a head to Morgensterns. No matter what you try, I'm positive you won't regret it.

With warm weather quickly approaching,  it’s time to get back into the swing of eating ice cream for at least one meal a day. I’m not sure about you, but I’ve been dreaming about the days where I have stacks of scoops dripping down my wrist since October, and I’m ready to dive in with my all time favorite ice cream – Morgenstern’s.  In the past year, I’ve probably had over 100 scoops of ice cream here, and I’m not even ashamed to admit that. It’s probably bold to write my first post on an ice cream parlour, but believe me when I say it’s what I feel most confident to write about, and I feel very strongly all humans should try this. Even Aziz Ansari agrees, in his “Master of None” episode, that Morgenstern’s is worth the hype.

At Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream in the Lower East Side, your experience is about so much more than your typical window pick-up ice cream stop. It’s about sitting there and staring into their wall size mirror while waiting for the man with deep voice and the 1950’s hat to belt out your name to come pick up your order. Their use of individually toasted slices of Japanese white bread for their special sundaes results in an unnaturally sweet, but incredibly pleasant, aroma that hits you as soon as you walk in the door.  It’s funky flavors and culturally relevant collaborations (ie. Kanye’s birthday week featured his own set of sundae’s and snacks), make Morgenstern’s one of the most unique ice cream places in New York.

I’ve so far tried (only) about 10 flavors. My personal favorite flavor is PB Picosos – chocolate with full, shelled peanuts folded into the center – and it’s been hard to stray and try new flavors. The rich, smooth, creamy texture of the ice cream, with the center full of salty peanuts creates a taste I have not yet been able to replicate in any other ice cream experience. Also amazing are the Edible Schoolyard Mint Chip, Smooth Strawberry, and Vietnamese coffee for those of you allergic to nuts or are for some reason looking to have a different flavor experience at Morgensterns. For those daring enough to try them, they offer crazy flavors like Durian Banana, Black Ass Licorice, American Egg, and Raw Milk. I’ll be honest, I’m not a very daring ice cream eater, but have heard nothing but praise for these crazy flavors.

Next time you’re craving your next big ice cream fix, please do yourself a favor a head to Morgensterns. No matter what you try, I’m positive you won’t regret it.
