After spending the afternoon in Provincetown, we headed back to our hotel in West Yarmouth and wanted to check out the town of Hyannis, which was just a few miles away from us.
We walked around for a bit to scope out all the restaurants and finally decided on Spanky’s Clam Shack, which had been recommended to us by someone at our hotel. I guess we made it to our shack after all (though this place really wasn’t a shack in any way, but hey, at least shack was in the name). We sat outside on their patio overlooking the water. It was a little chilly, but the atmosphere was too good to pass up.
We knew that we wanted a bowl of clam chowder, some sort of lobster, and some combination of baked and raw oysters and clams. Lucky for us, Spanky’s has a Chilled Seaside Sampler with an assortment of chilled local seafood including oysters, cherrystones, and shrimp and also a Baked Seaside Sampler including two oysters rockefeller, 2 clams casino, and 2 scallops and bacon. We of course ordered both samplers. In addition to that, we got a bowl of Cape Cod Clam Chowdah and a Baked Stuffed Lobster with seafood stuffing and topped with scallops.
Both of the samplers were awesome and the fact that we got to have a little bit of everything made them that much better. The Clams Casino (cherrystone clams baked and stuffed with seasoning, bacon, and crumbs) and the Oysters Rockefeller (oysters baked and topped with spinach, herbs, and parmesan) were my favorite, but everything was so fresh and delicious.
I swear, every clam chowder that we’ve ordered in New England has been the best clam chowder that I’ve ever had… And the chowder at Spanky’s was no exception. It was amazing. I’m drooling a little just thinking about it right now.
And then came the baked stuffed lobster. All I have to say is wow. Oh, and it’s a good thing I was wearing a bib. There was so much meat in the lobster and the stuffing and scallops really just brought it to a whole new level.
If you’re ever in Cape Cod, I highly recommend that you check out Spanky’s. What a great first dinner of our Labor Day vacation!
