What I Ordered
- BBQ Chicken Quesadilla (with avocado sour cream)
- Jumbo Lump Crab Pad Thai (with peppers, egg, tofu, carrots, bean sprouts, peants and jumbo lump crab meat)
- S'more Cheesecake (mascarpone, graham cracker crust, toasted marshmallow, chocolate)
In Short: From appetizer to dessert, this meal packed a major flavor-punch. Warm, gooey quesadillas, tangy Pad Thai, and sweet cheesecake made for an unforgettable (and totally affordable) meal in the heart of Center City Philadelphia.
If you’re looking to go out with a group of people who can never seem to agree on a cuisine, then your prayers have been answered. Stephen Starr’s Continental Midtown restaurant, situated right in the heart of Center City Philadelphia, caters to all palates with its unique, global menu.
Appetizer: BBQ Chicken Quesadillas with Avocado Sour Cream
I think I’ve gotten this appetizer every time I’ve come here (which is many, many times). It’s consistently awesome, and it’s reasonably priced and quite filling because of the chicken. The BBQ sauce is sweet and tangy, the quesadilla is crispy and cheesy, and the avocado sour cream gives a great creamy element to the dish.
Main Course: Jumbo Lump Crab Pad Thai
If you like Pad Thai and/or crab, then you really should be sold just from the picture. And yes, this dish tastes as good as it looks (maybe even better). The Pad Thai is sweet and tangy, with hints of peanut, veggie, tofu, and of course, jump lump crab meat.
Dessert: S’mores Cheesecake
If I could eat this every day I would. The mascarpone base makes it thick and delicious without being tooth-hurtingly sweet, and it’s a perfect mini size for one. Try it as part of a dessert flight and thank me later.
Atmosphere: The Continental Midtown is definitely what you’d describe as a ‘cool restaurant,’ constantly full of young, hip professionals. It boasts an extensive bar, so it’s a great spot for everything from a first date to a night out with friends. The restaurant has high ceilings, eclectic decor, is gigantic, and has some of the coolest seats (yes, I’m talking about those swinging basket chairs). The place also consistently has killer service.
Overall Recommendation: Get here ASAP. Come hungry, try everything, and share with everyone. Or, honestly, keep it all to yourself because it’s that good.
