My first thought when I read about The Peasantry was that “Elevated Street Food” sounded like pretty much the best thing ever… And then I saw the menu. I was amazed at the variety of dishes that they were offering and even more amazed at the fact that one item sounded better then the next. This was the one place that I knew I HAD to try while we were in Chicago. There were so many great choices on the menu that we decided we should go with a big group so that we could try as many things as possible.
So, we made a reservation for 12 people. That was a good decision.
I can’t possibly go through each of the items that we ordered and tried individually, but what I can do is tell you that I did not eat one bad thing at The Peasantry (well, maybe except the brussel sprouts.. I didn’t love those). What I’m going to do instead is group all of the items that we ordered so that you know what you HAVE to get and what you can probably skip when you go. But, like I said… everything really was good so my best advice to you would be to gather as many friends as you can and try one of everything!
Dishes You Must Get: House Chips, Gizzards, Escargot, Duck Wings, Beef and Bone Marrow Burger, Sweet Potato Churros
Could Go Either Way: Truffle Fries, Goat Curry
Dishes You Could Live Without: Lobster Mac, Brussel Sprout Salad, Chicken and Corn Pancake Gyro
Ok, well, as you can see, most of the dishes I tried falled into the “must get” category. Our of those, the duck wings, gizzards, and escargot were probably my favorite.. And the churros? Best I’ve ever had, hands down. Just get to The Peasantry ASAP because this is one that place you definitely need to try for yourself!
